Orange wines, ancient tradition and modernity. Discover Roico

Orange wines , also known as orange or amber wines, are probably the oldest wines in the world... and also the most modern. Made with white grapes using the red wine technique—that is, fermented with the skins —they produce golden or orange-colored wines with complex aromas, texture, and an unforgettable character.

A journey that began more than 8,000 years ago. In the Caucasus, in present-day Georgia, wines were already being made in qvevri , buried clay vessels where the white must fermented with the skins. This ancient tradition has resurfaced in places like Slovenia, Italy (Friuli), France, and Austria, with producers who are reintroducing the value of time, patience, and minimal intervention.

What does an orange wine taste like?

They often have aromas of dried fruits, spices, withered flowers, or tea. On the palate, they're more structured than a conventional white, with soft tannins and firm acidity. Perfect for umami dishes, aged cheeses, mushrooms, or Asian cuisine.
