Bierzo Wines with Family Roots

José Antonio García is one of the prominent names in the new generation of winemakers in Bierzo. His project began in 2010, after returning from Barcelona to recover and work the family vineyards inherited from his grandparents in Valtuille de Abajo and Corullón, two key areas within the Bierzo wine landscape.

Together with his wife, Julia Peña, José Antonio has built a winery based on manual labor, respect for old vines, and minimal intervention winemaking. Their philosophy seeks to recover Bierzo's identity: fresh, elegant, and deep wines, far from excessively mature or heavy styles.

His vineyards are spread across small plots with diverse soils, from clays to decomposed slates. Traditional varieties such as Mencía, Godello, Alicante Bouschet, Merenzao, Palomino, and Doña Blanca coexist there, contributing complexity and richness to his wines.

Work in the vineyard and winery is carried out with an artisanal approach: manual harvesting, spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, and winemaking designed to respect the expression of each plot. The result is lively, fresh, and gastronomic wines, with clean fruit, mineral tension, and a clear connection to the Bierzo landscape.

Among his wines, notable references include Un Culín, a fresh and direct wine that revives a lighter and more traditional way of drinking in Bierzo, and Julia, a tribute to his wife, made with a blend of local varieties and an elegant, deep, and personal expression.

At VinNatura, we select José Antonio García's wines for their authenticity, his work with old vineyards, and his honest way of interpreting Bierzo: wines with family history, artisanal sensibility, and a great gastronomic vocation.
