From Valtuille de Abajo, José Antonio García produces honest wines that respect the land and tell stories. Organic viticulture, family tradition, and the soul of El Bierzo in every glass.
Returning to one's roots can also be an act of rebellion. This was the experience of José Antonio García when, after years working in restaurants in Barcelona, he decided to return to his homeland, El Bierzo. Since 2010, together with his partner Julia, he has transformed the old family winery in Valtuille de Abajo into a benchmark of authenticity, respect for the land, and artisanal wine with soul.
Valtuille de Abajo is a small village in León with barely 70 inhabitants, but it concentrates one of the highest densities of old vines in the world, over 400 hectares on clay, slate, and pebble slopes. In this privileged environment, José Antonio organically cultivates about 25 hectares spread between Valtuille and Corullón, with more than 120 micro-plots mostly planted between 1900 and 1940.
Here, varieties like Mencía, Godello, Palomino, Doña Blanca, Alicante Bouchet, and Merenzao coexist in living soils, worked without herbicides or synthetic products. The harvest is manual, the treading is done by foot, and fermentations are spontaneous, without temperature control or added yeasts.

Each label reflects a part of his life and his territory:
"Un culín" is a fresh and direct red, a nod to the Bierzo custom of sharing small sips with friends.
"Julia" is a tribute to his travel companion, a singularly vinified wine that combines co-planted red and white grapes in a delicate and mineral symphony.
"Valtuille de Abajo," "Corullón," "Godello Viñas Viejas," "Palomino"... each expresses a landscape, an altitude, a soil, and an emotion.

José Antonio doesn't seek trends or labels; he seeks coherence. His winery works with traditional methods that look to the future, committing to real sustainability and the recovery of Bierzo's wine heritage. More than wine, he is building a legacy.
At VinNatura, we are thrilled to share projects with winemakers who, like him, understand wine as a bridge between generations, nature, and culture. Every bottle he produces is a capsule of authenticity, and every sip, an invitation to discover the purest Bierzo.
