Pinot Noir
Elegance, delicacy and an international outlook
Pinot Noir is one of the world's oldest, most delicate and most admired red grape varieties. Originating in Burgundy, France, it is associated with some of the most elegant and prestigious wines on the international scene, especially in historic areas such as the Côte d'Or.
Its fame stems from both its beauty and its difficulty. Pinot Noir has thin skin, is sensitive to climate and requires a lot of care in the vineyard. When it finds the right conditions, it produces subtle, fresh and nuanced wines, with a more elegant than powerful expression.
In the glass, wines made from Pinot Noir typically show light red colors, aromas of cherry, raspberry, flowers, soft spices and, with time, more complex notes of undergrowth, damp earth or fine leather. On the palate, they stand out for their lively acidity, silky tannins and a delicate texture that makes them particularly food-friendly.
Although Burgundy remains its major reference, Pinot Noir is now cultivated in many cool or temperate climate regions, such as Oregon, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Australia, and some areas of Germany and Italy. Each place offers a different interpretation: more floral, more fruity, more mineral or more spicy.
In Spain, it is not a widespread variety, but some producers have explored its cultivation in specific areas, seeking different expressions adapted to landscapes that are unusual for this grape. These are minority productions, often linked to personal projects and a more experimental vision of wine.
